3 Things to Remember when Getting a Reading

I just want to bust a few myths today and go over some important points that will help you to get the best out of your reading. 

Readings can be a fabulous service to complement your daily life and can assist with making decisions and seeing situations with greater clarity. A good reading can be almost like a pep talk, and provide an uplifting boost when you need it, helping you to see the light, and perhaps the bigger picture when you feel lost.

Having said that, there are always going to be some thing that your psychic can't tell you. I think it's important for us as a profession to be honest about this to correctly manage customer's expectations about what we can and can't do.

Kid's tv and popular culture have a lot to answer for when it comes to the sorts of things people assume we can do!

So here are a few points to remember so that you don't end up disappointed...

The Future isn't set in Stone

This might seem obvious, but we do live in a world where many people have the misconception that our lives are planned ahead of time, and in minute detail so they just have to find out what the plan is, and they'll know for sure what is coming. 

That's not how life works at all! 

Yes, certain events or meetings may be pre-destined to a point, but for the most part there is an awful lot of personal choice involved, and your decisions are what will make the difference.

A really bad question to ask in a reading is "Will I decide to do x" - now, regardless of what x is, you are basically asking the psychic to make a decision for you, albeit in a roundabout way. If you have a decision to make, the psychic's job isn't to predict whether you will do something or not, because that is always going to remain your decision! They might answer yes, or that they feel it's likely, but you normally have the option to choose another path. A better question would be "Will I enjoy doing x?" or "Will I be good at x?"

Try to think of life as being more like a 'Choose your own Adventure' book (do you remember those?) or an interactive computer game. Your choices have an impact on the outcomes, and while your psychic may be able to help you make an informed decision, they can't tell you with 100% accuracy what is definitely going to happen.

The way we work is by interpreting the potential energy at the time of the reading - it's a bit like taking a likely future snapshot. That potential future can change based on your choices, decisions and the choices & decisions of other people around you too. 

Sometimes there is also a temptation to be a bit lazy, and take your foot off the gas if reaching a goal or a positive outcome to a situation has been predicted for you. You might assume that you don't have to keep working towards that goal or that you can stop making the efforts you should be making for it to come about. That is a terrible mistake, because you can prevent something from happening or delay it's arrival that way!

The future is not set in stone, we are actually much more empowered in our lives to create, co-create with the universe and make things happen, than we may realise. 

The Answer you get is your Psychic's Opinion

Following on from my first point that the future isn't set in stone, I think it's important to note that every reading you get involves that psychic's opinion, to some extent.

They may be very experienced, wise and accurate, but when we conduct a reading, we are working with energy rather than straightforward data, and that does require our interpretation - that's why you come to see us! We will do our best to interpret that correctly, and as accurately as we can, but we are not computers crunching numbers, we are human being interpreting esoteric signs, symbols and feelings so it's not always as straightforward as we might like it to be!

This goes for all types of readings, including tarot, oracle or angel cards, numerology, astrology, even pendulum or rune readings. The person doing the reading will give you their best assessment of what they are seeing, based on their experience, training and communication or guidance coming through from their spirit guides, angels or higher self, but it's still their opinion.

We are not perfect channels for spiritual information, and with the best will in the world, there will always be an element of the psychic's own personality or opinions in the reading you get. It's helpful to always remember that you are dealing with a human being and not directly with the divine presence itself, which leads me nicely on to my next point...

Your Psychic isn't God

OK, so this should be obvious, but you'd be surprised! 

Your psychic is not God, the Goddess, the Divine Presence or whatever you want to call it. 

We are human beings. 

Yes we are spiritual beings having a human experience, and yes we are of course connected to the source of all that is and will ever be, but we are not all-wise, all-knowing, and all-seeing. We have our human limitations, our flaws and we don't know everything. In most ways, we are just like the next person!

We may be an expert in our field, highly respected or with a great track record, but please remember that you are talking to a flesh and blood human being who is doing their best, not an all-seeing, all-knowing deity.

Sometimes there will be questions that we can't answer, or that the information isn't being shown to us. There is normally a good reason for this, because as I've mentioned many times before, you get the information that you need, on the day in question. 

Your psychic doesn't know everything about you, and they can't see every single eventuality for your situation. If they aren't able to answer a question for you, or answer it precisely, then that may well be because they don't know. 

If I can't see the answer to a question you ask or feel I'm being 'blocked' energetically from seeing the answer (which  happens occasionally) I will tell you outright. It's not that I'm withholding information from you, I just honestly don't always know the answer! On that note, remember to be cautious of psychics who make out that they do have all the answers, because that is simply untrue. They may be good, but they aren't God!

Our culture here in the West seems to have this strange notion that psychics know everything about every person they meet, but that simply isn't the truth. And thankfully so! I think my head would explode with that amount of information, plus there are some things that we aren't supposed to know ahead of time and with good reason.

It's like the old adage goes - God moves in mysterious ways. We may not always understand why certain information isn't available to us, even with the help of a psychic or medium, but there is always a good reason for that.
